Placement on no-fly list sans evidence illegal: IHC

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed the authorities concerned to strictly adhere to the procedure for placing any citizen on the no-fly list, emphasising that citizens’ names should not be added to the list “arbitrarily”. Justice Babar Sattar declared that placement of a citizen’s name on the Passport Control List (PCL) without tangible evidence to be illegal and unconstitutional, ordering the immediate removal of the petitioner’s name from the list and restoring his right to travel freely. While deciding the petition of Nadir Mukhtiar recently, Justice Sattar found that the Directorate of Immigration and Passports had violated due process and fundamental rights by restricting the petitioner’s ability to travel abroad without proper legal justification. Number of critical Covid patients falls below 1,000 in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Seven more Covid-related deaths were reported in Pakistan in the last 24 hours while 252 new cases of the pandemic took the infection tally to 1,283,475. According to the National Command and Operation Centre’s (NCOC) data, the death toll in the country has risen to 28,697 after seven people succumbed to the viral disease. Lahore ATC to indict over 260 in Jinnah House attack case

LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court on Saturday distributed the copies of charge-sheet among 267 suspects, including several senior PTI leaders, and summoned them for indictment in the Jinnah House attack case next week. While incarcerated PTI leaders including ex-ministers Dr Yasmin Rashid, Mian Mehmoodur Rashid, ex-governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema and Senator Ejaz Chaudhry were produced before Judge Manzer Ali Gill, who conducted the hearing inside the Kot Lakhpat jail, the latter was informed that ex-minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi was shifted to Punjab Institute of Cardiology for a cardiac complaint before the hearing commenced. Also, PTI’s former lawmakers Aliya Hamza Malik and Rubina Jamil, social media activists Sanam Javed and Tayyaba Raja, fashion designer Khadija Shah and other suspects out on bail attended the hearing inside the jail.
